Deworming

Deworming of horses – support for antiparasitic prophylaxis

Earning control is an important part of health prevention and helps to reduce the risk of over-burdening the body with internal parasites. Properly performed prevention should take into account the conditions of maintenance of the horse, the manner of use, age, contact with other horses and the results of faecal tests.

In this category you will find products designed to support antiparasitic prophylaxis in horses. The selection of the appropriate preparation should be adapted to the individual situation of the animal and, in the case of medicinal products, carried out in accordance with the instructions of the veterinarian.

Why is it important to control parasites in horses?

Internal intruders can occur in horses of different ages and with different maintenance systems. Their excessive presence may affect the condition, the use of nutrients and the general well-being of the animal.

Regular control of the level of work is a way of better assessing whether deworming is necessary at a given time. An approach based on faecal examination and matching of treatment to the actual level of infestation of parasites is increasingly used.

Deworming of adult and young horses

The frequency and method of deworming may vary according to age and living conditions. Young horses, animals in larger flocks and horses regularly using common paddocks may require particularly careful monitoring.

The prevention plan should take into account not only preparations against parasites, but also the hygiene of pastures and boxing, regular removal of feces and appropriate management of grazing.

How to choose a preparation for deworming a horse?

The choice of the medium depends, among other things, on the type of parasites, the age and weight of the horse's body and the earlier history of deworming. Not every agent acts on the same groups of insects, therefore accidental use of products may not have the desired effect.

In the case of medicinal products, it is particularly important to follow the dosing recommendations and to consult a veterinarian. The responsible use of medicinal products also helps to reduce the problem of increasing resistance of parasites to active substances.

Prophylaxis of parasites in horses

The effective protection of the horse from insects should not be based solely on the administration of preparations. Regular studies of faeces, environmental hygiene, rotation of pastures, removal of excrement and reduction of excessive density of animals on the runway are also important.

Such a comprehensive approach allows to better adapt the behaviour to the real needs of the stock and reduce the unnecessary use of anti-parasitic measures.
