Marine algae of the species Ascophylum nodosu, called seaweed, are multicellular macroscopic organisms found in coastal marine ecosystems, which are a rich source of polysaccharides, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), enzymes and bioactive peptides. They contain a wide range of organic minerals and trace elements with high digestibility.
When to use:
- with changes in the bone, arthrosis, splint, at risk of bone formation
- with fractures, broken bones.
- in young horses, especially in case of abnormal growth
- with inflammation.
- horses with a tendency to develop stomach and duodenal ulcers
- in horses with metabolic problems; insulin resistance, Cushing, EMS
Characteristics:
-low protein content
- the natural source of iodine
-contain fucoxanthin - carotenoid present in algae
-high calcium and vitamin K content
-is a source of stable polyunsaturated fatty acids omega-6 and omega-3 in relations about 1,0
-70 various minerals and trace elements in natural form, including rare boron and silicon
-anti-inflammatory action - A recent study at University College Cork using components of macroalg supplements, looked at their effect on cytokines (a family of molecules that help regulate immune response and inflammation). Macroglons have been shown to have a significant anti-inflammatory effect.
-the ability to buffer stomach acids - due to its high calcium content
-supporting bone metabolism - multiplying cells undergo a number of changes resulting in bone tissue formation. Positive effects of algae on bone metabolism in growing horses have been demonstrated. Fucoxanthin contained in brown algae enhances the generally understood osteogenic activity, and bone mineralization is also supported by calcium, magnesium and vitamin K content.
-The change in matter - marine algae are a source of iodine that helps in the production of energy, which translates into metabolism.
- metabolic problems - studies in mice have shown beneficial effects of Ascophylum nodosum algae. These algae have had an effect on the elimination of metabolic disease problems. They have contributed to significant weight loss, decreased blood glucose levels, as well as hepatic steatosis and a general tendency to develop inflammation.
- control of excess fat – fucoxanthin contained in brown algae affects the activity of many enzymes responsible for fat metabolism, thus increasing the process of fat burning
-anticancer activity - numerous studies have shown that fucoxanthin in the diet is converted into carotenoid, fucoxanthinone, with high potential as an anticancer agent
-vitamin K - in brown algae occurs in high concentrations in the form of phytomenadione. This is their valuable feature, because this vitamin is relatively difficult to find in nature. Proteins activated by the carboxylation process, the essential cofactor of which is vitamin K, are important for blood clotting, bone mineralization and the prevention of calcification of blood vessels.
