Biotin, also referred to as vitamin H or B7, plays an important role in cell metabolism, that is, converting the intake of food into energy so that horses can grow, work and multiply. It has a strong effect on the condition of hair, hair, skin and its horn products. In horse keepers, it is particularly valued for its significant impact on the hooves. In addition, biotin is essential for the growth of cells, the synthesis of fatty acids and the metabolism of fats and amino acids, which helps the body to function. It plays an important role in maintaining the health of the reproductive tract and the stability of the nervous system.
Hoof cells are one of the most metabolically active cells in the body because they undergo continuous cell proliferation. The hooves horn is being consumed and must continue to grow. It has been shown repeatedly in horse and pony studies that long-term supplementation with biotin clearly supports the growth of a strong, healthy hoove horn. It also has a positive impact on its growth rate.
The supplement affects the currently growing hooves horn. In order to be visible, the results must be applied as long as the hoof grows, i.e. minimum 7 months.
When to use:
- in horses with hooves problems
- when the growth of the hooves is slowed
- when the hooves horn is weak, breaking
-in the period of replacement of the hair cover (linearity)
- in case of peeling of the skin (biotin deficiency manifests in this way, but there may be many causes)
- with major injuries, after surgery
-helpfully in the absence of energy, after a period of malnutrition, with metabolic problems
- in horses with a tendency to dissipate
The role of biotin in the body:
-contributes to maintaining proper energy metabolism
-has a significant impact on the growth and repair of skin and hooves
-helps to maintain normal mucosal membranes
-part of the synthesis of fatty acids and the metabolism of fats and amino acids
-important for proper functioning of thyroid and adrenal glands
- plays a role in the health of the reproductive tract and the stability of the nervous system
Symptoms and effects of deficiency:
-soft hooves, slow growing, cracking, thin sole
-skin peeling, premature graying, slow wound healing
-conjunctivitis propensity
- weak muscles, lack of energy
