The preparation of Nuvena provides lysine as the first amino acid limiter, because the horse's body is unable to produce it itself. Its dietary deficiency may limit the correct use of other amino acids and protein synthesis.
Supplementation of lysine is particularly important in seed-based diets and components with low or medium protein content and quality such as oats, barley, beet pulp beetroot or wheat bran. An adequate amount of lysine helps to make better use of the protein present in the feed, without the need for an excessive increase in its total diet content.
The addition of lysine can be particularly useful in growing horses and those who have difficulty developing muscles and improving the dorsal. It is also worth considering the use of it during the mincing period, with slower growth of the hooves, during recovery after injuries or treatments, and in situations where a diet with reduced protein and energy content is necessary. In addition, the manufacturer shall also indicate its use in horses with a diagnosis of PSSM or HYPP, horses susceptible to musculitis and as support for muscle and nervous system regeneration in horses affected by Lyme disease. In the case of animals suffering from or undergoing supplementation, a veterinarian or a nutrition specialist should be consulted.
