Christian Baier is a coach and rider who gained knowledge about horses and riding around the world. While working on developing an international education system and certification of riders and trainers, he saw a lack of a practical, transparent manual that would collect
in one place classic equestrian figures – all patterns and driving patterns used in horse training. This gap was filled in by his book. It shows riders how to safely and methodically train horses in a closed space, and gives coaches a comprehensive tool to work on the body development and condition of horses.
Classic equestrian figures are the basis of everything we do with horses on the riding stable – from the first independent riding without lunge lines and learning to move on the riding stable to the most advanced horse training at the level of international competitions. Even parkers consist of a combination (and modifications) of these figures, intertwined from start to finish!
The book presents clear schematics of the proper performance of equestrian figures in training as well as a unique selection over 50 sports horse development exercises in both dressage and jumps. The implementation of equestrian figures is the basis of proper training and education in both disciplines. The author carefully explains all the exercises, giving them clear illustrations. The figures are arranged from the simplest to the most complex – with a section dedicated to cavaletti and jumps, from the first ride through a single bar to advanced exercises and parkers at a high level of difficulty.
The exercises presented in the book combined with practical knowledge will help in the development of the horse and rider – sometimes even after years of “stuck in place”.
